Richard Brown
BSc(Hons)

Richard Brown specialises in alcohol, drug and toxicology casework including road Traffic Act cases (drink-drive/drug-drive), illicit drug seizures, analysis for toxicology evidence (blood/urine/breath/saliva testing). He has worked for Keith Borer Consultants since 2002.

Mr Brown has a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacology from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He is a member of TIAFT (The International Association of Forensic Toxicologists) and UKIAFT (UK & Ireland Association of Forensic Toxicologists).

Toxicology-related experience

Mr Brown specialises in a wide range of toxicology cases including:

  • Alcohol technical defence

  • Effects of alcohol, drugs and medications

  • Patterns of drugs/medicine use

  • Interpretation of blood, breath, urine and saliva analyses

He has been reporting on toxicology cases since 2003 and has written or peer reviewed over 3,500 such cases to date.

Drug-related experience

Mr Brown is trained in the handling, examination and testing of all types of controlled drugs. In particular he has expertise in:

  • Cannabis cultivation - yield estimates, set-up and equipment costs, electricity abstraction and cannabis plant valuations
  • Drug valuations - for trial, sentencing and Proceeds of Crime Act (POCA)
  • Drugs/medicine usage patterns
  • Effects of controlled and medicinal drugs
  • Drug legislation - CBD cannabis

He has been reporting on drug cases since 2004 and has written or peer reviewed over 2,000 such cases, of which over 1,000 have involved drug valuations and patterns of drug use.
