Richard Brown
BSc(Hons)

Richard Brown specialises in alcohol, drug and toxicology casework including drink-drive/drug-drive cases, illicit drug seizures, analysis for toxicology evidence (blood, urine, hair testing) and issues pertaining to custody matters in family cases. He has worked for Keith Borer Consultants since 2002.

Mr Brown has a Bachelor of Science degree in Pharmacology from the University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne. He is a member of TIAFT (The International Association of Forensic Toxicologists) and UKIAFT (UK & Ireland Association of Forensic Toxicologists).

Toxicology-related experience

Mr Brown specialises in all aspects of toxicology including:

  • Alcohol technical defence

  • Effects of alcohol, drugs and medications

  • Patterns of drugs/medicine use

  • Interpretation of blood, breath, urine, saliva and hair analyses

  • Post-mortem toxicology

He has been reporting on toxicology cases since September 2003 and has written or peer-reviewed over 3,500 such cases to date.

Drug-related experience

Mr Brown is trained in the handling, examination and testing of all types of controlled drugs. In particular he has expertise in cannabis cultivation cases including potential yield estimates, set-up and equipment costs, electricity abstraction and cannabis plant valuations.

He also specialises in drug valuations, particularly those for Proceeds of Crime Act applications, drugs/medicine usage patterns and effects of controlled and medicinal drugs.  He has been reporting on drug cases since March 2004 and has written or peer-reviewed over 2,000 such cases, of which over 1,000 have involved drug valuations and patterns of drug use.
