Orla Sower
BSc(Hons), MSc, MCSFS

Orla Sower has been a forensic biologist at Keith Borer Consultants since January 2003 and has prepared in excess of 850 reports for courts throughout the United Kingdom, The Republic of Ireland, Bermuda, The Cayman Islands and Gibraltar.

She set up and ran KBC’s DNA profiling unit for 10 years, is Manager of KBC’s laboratory facilities and can carry out laboratory examinations for the presence of blood, semen, saliva and trace DNA.

Her areas of expertise include the interpretation of both simple and complex DNA profiling results with the associated review of statistical assessments (both routine and advanced probabilistic genotyping systems), the interpretation of body fluid stains and blood pattern analysis. Typical casework evaluations include consideration of the transfer of body fluids in sexual assault and rape cases, the interpretation of blood patterns on clothing or objects and at crime scenes to determine actions or sequences of events, and issues surrounding direct versus indirect ‘secondary’ DNA transfer in all case types, including firearms/drugs cases.

Orla Sower has a Bachelor of Science (Honours) in Industrial Microbiology and a Master of Science Degree in Forensic Science. She is a member of the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences. She can be contacted at our Durham office where she will be happy to discuss your case requirements with you.
