Mobile Phones & Connection Record Charting

Mobile Phones

Mobile telephone networks transmit, receive and store information which may be relevant to a forensic investigation.  We can investigate mobile handsets, their associated SIM cards, and the cell sites which propagate messages through the network.

We can recover data stored on mobile telephone handsets, SIM cards and inserted multi-media cards. We can report the content of this including, for example, who has called who; where, when and for how long; the content of any text messages sent and any photographic or video files stored.  We can also extract deleted text messages from SIM cards and other deleted data where it remains accessible.

We may also be able to obtain data from some inoperable mobile phone handsets which have been damaged prior to examination, including those which have been immersed in water.  Above all else, be careful not to turn on a mobile phone before you send it to us as this may cause data loss.

Connection Record Charting

We can examine and summarise the connection history (incoming and outgoing calls) of phones by examination of the network provider's connection records.  A court order is often required for the network provider to make this available for examination and requests should be made as early as possible as some telephone companies only keep this information for six or twelve months.  We can establish the frequency of calls and attempted calls made between parties and can produce connection charts to show call behaviours.
