DNA Profiling
The ability to link an individual to an incident through DNA profiling means that it is often a key element of forensic evidence in criminal cases. The discriminating power of DNA profiling evidence is such that it is critical for an experienced forensic scientist to consider the circumstances as to where and how DNA from specific individuals could have been left or transferred to a crime scene.
We have 8 forensic scientists who have specific DNA expertise in:
- Identification and recovery of biological material.
- DNA profiling (including Low Template/Low Copy Number).
- Interpretation of DNA profiling results in relation to criminal proceedings, including assessment of representative sampling, secondary transfer and persistence issues.
- Paternity issues.
We can undertake independent DNA profiling for you in our own fully validated DNA profiling laboratory, enabling us to provide high quality, rapid DNA analysis of conventional biological samples such as blood, semen, saliva and hairs. Our highly sensitive trace protocols also allow DNA profiling from contact samples such as those deposited through simply touching or holding items, for example from drugs wraps, gear-sticks and steering wheels.
