Firearms, ballistics, firearm residues and explosive devices

We have prepared reports for use in criminal and civil cases involving many types of weapons and imitation firearms including toy guns, airguns, hand guns, stun guns, rifles, shotguns and home made guns. Our work predominantly falls into 6 categories:

• Classification of firearms and ammunition according to current legislation, including test firing when required.
• Reporting on the mechanical condition of firearms including damage, modifications, deactivation work and health and safety issues.
• Comparison of cartridge cases and missiles from a scene or deceased/injured person with those test fired from a suspected crime firearm.
• Analysis and reconstruction of complex shooting incidents by consideration of the capability of particular weapons and ammunition, interpretation of wounds and damage caused by the discharge of firearms, and the determination of the range and trajectory of shots fired.
• The analysis and interpretation of gunshot residues to determine if a suspect may have fired a firearm or has been in the vicinity of a firearm when fired, or has been subject to contamination from sources of residue.
• The uses of explosives and the identification of component parts of explosive and improvised explosive devices.

We also prepare reports on the functionality of weapons not classed as firearms, such as crossbows and harpoon guns.
